HappyHour: It's Five O'Clock Somewhere! Sterling Publishing Co. is one of the world's leading publishers of nonfiction titles with more than 5000 books in print. Sterling hired Art & Logic to develop HappyHour, an iPhone application featuring thousands of drink recipes from 10,000 Drinks, a book by Paul Knorr. Users manipulate spinner wheels and use the iPhone's motion sensors to search by liquors, mixers, and beverage types.
iPhone Game for Children.
3Pm Studios hired Art & Logic to develop
"Henry & Hailey's Preschool Pals", a children's
mix-n-match game that has become a runaway hit since its
debut on the iTunes App Store. Players select a "pal"
and listen to them talk about what they like to do. After
learning about the character, the child matches the head
with the corresponding body and feet. A special surprise
appears after matching all ten pals. We developed this
iPhone application using Apple's iPhone 2.0 SDK
and xCode 3.1.
Henry & Hailey's Preschool Pals was nominated for the
2008 Best App Ever Awards. Purchase the game here.
Contact Management for the BlackBerry Platform. M Financial Group hired Art & Logic to develop a native BlackBerry application to allow clients to access contact information hosted by third-party data providers. Users can log into the application, search for contacts, and view detailed information about those contacts via web services published by the data provider. Users can easily phone or email their contacts by clicking hyperlinks that invoke the corresponding BlackBerry applications. The application also utilizes BlackBerry GPS capabilities along with Google Maps to provide directions to a contact's location from the user's current location.
Web Application for Creative Talent. The Workbook was established in 1977 as a sourcebook for Los Angeles creative talent. Since then it has become a prestigious industry publication, bringing together top advertising talent and creatives from around the world. We were hired to redevelop and maintain workbook.com, a Python/TurboGears-based website with 50,000 listings featuring creative buyers, reps, industry resources, and suppliers.
User Interface Design for Speaker Control Center. JBL wanted a sleek user interface design for their LSR4300 Studio Monitor Control Center. Our design team worked together with JBL's development team to bring their original pencil sketches to life. The 3D user interface makes it easier to configure high-end speaker systems. The system has won many awards within the pro audio industry.
CDMA Modem Driver. We were hired by Kyocera to develop a Mac OS X kernel driver for the Amd'd Jet and Angel cell phone and Kyocera's EVDO PCMCIA card. A single driver was developed to work with both devices, providing the user with high speed wireless EVDO data access, all with the built-in network connection facilities of OS X. We also developed a configuration utility, which automatically configures OS X's Internet Connect application for quick & easy setup.
eMusic.com Download Manager. We implemented the Macintosh version of eMusic Download Manager based on Carbon so that it runs natively on both Mac OS X and Mac OS 9. The self-updating download manager is used to download music files from eMusic.com, parse XML metadata, and perform EMP file decryption.
iTunes Plugin for SRS Labs. SRS Labs hired us to develop an iTunes plug-in so they could bring their WowHd audio processing technology to Mac users. The plug-in (including a free trial version) is available here.
Flash client for monitoring yachts. Our client, Maretron, created a sophisticated dashboard for large boats, displaying crucial information such as wind speed, position, and tank levels from a network of sensor devices. We re-implemented this system as a portable Flash client, with a new visual design, that uses the marine standard NMEA 2000 protocol. Since the captain might be monitoring wirelessly or from shore, the connection is encrypted with SSL. We also added an authoring feature, so that captains can create their own dashboards and configure the controls in various ways. Layouts can be saved and shared with others.
Web interface for VoIP accelerator. Israel-based Kagoor Networks hired Art & Logic to create the embedded web interface for their VoiceFlow 1000 voice-over-IP accelerator. Using the GoAhead WebServer and an early version of the Art & Logic Device Manage Framework, Art & Logic was able to develop a highly interactive interface, including real-time scrolling graphs, in only 116K of memory. Art & Logic’s Online Conferencing System served as a collaborative workspace for the two companies, overcoming geographic distances.
iLearning Online Interactive for Harcourt Interactive Technology (iloli™). Art & Logic developed a web application that presents Harcourt’s published Reading and Math Assessment Tests to elementary school students across the country via the internet. The application enables school superintendents to create Teacher accounts, who in turn can create Student accounts, create classroom groups, assign tests to students either as a group or as part of their individual development plans. Students log onto the system, take tests, and view test results instantaneously. Teachers and Supervisors can view reports to gauge how students are performing against state benchmarks. A separate offline application was developed for importing XML content into the backend database. The iloli™ application will scale to many thousands of simultaneous users.
Following the completion of the original application for Harcourt Interactive Technology (HIT), the Harcourt Education and Measurement (HEM) group hired Art & Logic to modify the original application for use with their testing products. Unlike the HIT product, which was intended as a practice tool, the HEM product is a “high stakes” test administered to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. Art & Logic is now using the iloli™ application to meet the needs of several more Harcourt divisions.
Lucis plugin for Photoshop, Illustrator, and PhotoDeluxe. The LucisArt plugin supports Photoshop, Photoshop LE, Illustrator and PhotoDeluxe. Based on patented technology originally developed for medical and scientific imaging, LucisArt gives the user the ability to repair photographic problems, including the following features: Exposure, Whyeth, Klimpt, Winslow, Sculpture, Plaid, and Mix. Art & Logic developed the cross-platform LucisArt plugin for Mac OS and Windows.
Lucis Pro is an application used by medical and scientific professionals to extract detail from monochrome and color images using a patented Differential Hysteresis Processing technology. ICT asked Art & Logic to implement bug fixes and enhancements to previous releases of Lucis, and to complete the new Lucis Pro version 5. ICT asked Art & Logic to port LucisArt from Windows to Macintosh.
DC100 Control Application. Leica Microscopy, in Switzerland, hired Art & Logic to port their Windows image manipulation software to the Macintosh platform. Art & Logic was responsible for the application, drivers, and TWAIN drivers. The resulting software captures 24-bit image data from a digital camera and renders it on the screen in real time. Images can be saved to a variety of file formats, including TIFF, JPEG, and PICT.
Web-based DMS for Motorola. Motorola’s SURFboard wireless cable modem incorporates gateway, firewall, VPN, and WEP security features. Art & Logic developed an API which allowed cable service providers to customize the interface at runtime, selectively hiding and showing content and changing fields to read/write or read-only. The interface was integrated with a customized version of the GoAhead Webserver and Art & Logic’s own Device Management Framework.
