Google hired Art & Logic to develop a catalog of promotional products they offer to companies to assist them in gaining visibility at Google Places. The products all feature the Places Push Pin image. A dynamic HTML5 front end featuring sliding page transitions was used to deliver a catalog experience to the user. The application includes a shopping cart-like feature for selecting and submitting a request for materials.

Web-based DMS for Motorola

Motorola's SURFboard wireless cable modem incorporates gateway, firewall, VPN, and WEP security features. Through a partnership between the two companies, Art & Logic consulted with ROLAND engineers developing the VS8F-3 expansion card, and created a Software Development Kit (SDK) to be used by third-party developers of audio effects plugins. Mac OS X Kernel Driver and Application

After successfully developing the OS X driver for their Pro|Click mouse, Razer hired Art & Logic to develop a driver and control application for their more advanced DeathAdder gaming mouse. Working from the Pro|Click project code as a base, the driver and daemon application were adapted to work with the DeathAdder, while a new control application with a unique user interface was developed from scratch. The control application was particularly challenging due to its UI requirements, but the end result was a near duplicate of the Windows user experience, as the client had requested.

Cross-platform Application for Processing Aerial Photos into Traffic Data

Skycomp, Inc. needed to process aerial image data and extract information about traffic patterns. A large amount of image data had to be processed rapidly by hand. Their existing tool, SkyTracker 1, was outdated and difficult to use. Art & Logic designed a new user interface and implemented a more powerful cross-platform tool. Skycomp later hired Art & Logic to enhance SkyTracker II with the ability to render ECW images, making it possible to quickly scan and annotate much larger, high resolution images.

iPad Application for ACCA Duct Sizing Calculator

Art & Logic was hired by the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) to create an iPad version of their Duct Sizing Calculator device. The application consists of high-resolution scanned images of both sides of the calculator device which are implemented as stacked images that can rotate over the top of one another so that the user can interact with the calculator via iPad gestures in exactly the same way as they would use the analog version of the device.

Players enter their scores for each hole and the app automatically tracks Net, Stableford, Skins, Closest to Pin, Long Drives, and all bets for a multitude of games that can be played concurrently. Live leaderboards are available for each game. Spectators can use the same code to watch live leaderboards during tournament play.

Cross-Platform Mobile Prayer Application

InPrayer is a mobile application for Android and iOS. It facilitates a global prayer chain and is part of a prayer initiative by a church called "777" which encourages prayer seven days a week at 7am and 7pm. The Seventh-day Adventist church hired Art & Logic to implement a solution that incorporated a custom map view utilizing the GPS location of users using the application, Facebook and Twitter integration, and daily devotional prompts based on global prayer requests. The application helps users be aware of prayer participants both in their local community and globally.

Measuring Freeway Road Traffic from the Skies

Skycomp wanted to replace the need to print out 1000's of traffic survey pictures so that "counters" could scan through the pictures and count vehicles, marking each picture with a grease pencil. A flash application was built to load the images in a viewer area with marking tools to replace the grease pencil. Different types of vehicles were marked with different symbols. A thumbnail strip was available across the bottom of the screen to easily navigate to a specific image. All annotations were stored in a file that could be emailed back to Skycomp, enabling them to outsource the counting effort. The annotation file could be copied into a directory containing the same survey images, enabling a Skycomp administrator to replicate the results entered by the offsite "counter".

When a major microprocessor manufacturer needed an application to play their tutorial video to new WiMAX users, they came to Art & Logic. As the content would be flexible, covering numerous languages, markets, and product versions, they needed a system that could be skinned and configured easily by OEMs. Art & Logic co-designed and then created custom player software, along with a comprehensive configuration system, a Google gadget, Vista gadget, and internationalized installers, all of which ended up being shipped on many thousands of laptops.

NBCUPhotobank.com was developed by Art & Logic for Lightbox Network to deliver selected content from NBC's digital asset management application, also developed by Art & Logic for Lightbox Network, to media outlets and publications. Media users can browse or search the site for celebrity images and shows from any NBCU network and register to gain access to high-res content. NBCU admins determine access restrictions for registered users, such as how many images per month a user may download or whether they can use a credit card to purchase licenses.

WallCustomizer is a Flash application with a sliding list of Evo System components represented as thumbnail images. User select a tiles which are placed on the wall by the application. Colors, wood grains, textures, etc can be selected by the user. Components may be dragged from a sliding list and placed on the grid. In addition to the Evo System components users can also select items such as flat panel TVs, DVD players, speakers, etc. and place them on the wall grid. When satisfied they can save the design and print out a shopping list of components required to construct the layout. In addition to the Flash front end, A&L also produced a web admin interface for maintaining the components in a MySQL database that were accessible to the Flash application.

The ADE system, developed for Soundelux in Hollywood, California, combines software application and interface electronics to help film sound editors bridge the gap between traditional movieola editing and digital editing. Sauk County, Wisconsin hired Art & Logic to re-brand a Flash game. The original game allowed users to create hypothetical budgets for New York City. For example, players could decide to raise taxes or cut emergency services in an attempt to balance the budget. Art & Logic made modifications to the user interface and the internal data so that the game was for the Sauk County budget instead of the New York City budget.

DC100 Control Application

Leica Microscopy, in Switzerland, hired Art & Logic to port their Windows image manipulation software to the Macintosh platform. Art & Logic was responsible for the application, drivers, and TWAIN drivers. The resulting software captures 24-bit image data from a digital camera and renders it on the screen in real time. Images can be saved to a variety of file formats, including TIFF, JPEG, and PICT.

Printer Management Interface

HP hired Art & Logic to develop an embedded web-based management interface for their DesignJet series of large format printers. Mac OS Audio Drivers for Echo

Working with Echo Digital Audio Corporation, Art & Logic ported their generic driver framework from Windows NT to Mac OS, created ASIO and OMS drivers, and a console application. Echo is now able to support their entire line of high-quality audio hardware for the Macintosh, including Gina, Darla, Layla, Gina24, Darla24, Layla24, and Mona cards, using a single codebase. Most recently, we have ported this work to Mac OS X, helping Echo to remain on the leading edge of the audio interface world, and assisting them in learning the intricacies of OS X kernel development along the way, in order to allow them to maintain their products in-house.

The iloli framework implements Harcourt's HSPOA and READS product lines. Following the completion of the original application for Harcourt Interactive Technology (HIT), the Harcourt Education and Measurement (HEM) group hired Art & Logic to modify the original application for use with their testing products. Unlike HSPOA and READS, which are assessment practice tools, the SDRT/SDMT product is a "high stakes" test administered to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Developed for Accordance Music Systems, HotzMaker is a graphical authoring system for creating multimedia MIDI experiences. Media Manager for Photo Shoots

Lightbox Network, Inc. hired Art & Logic to develop a Windows version of its media manager application. The software allows photographers to do "live" shoots with a tethered camera, such that images and movies can be processed and uploaded to the Lightbox server as the shoot is happening. Editors can then see virtually real-time progress of the shoot online and interact by requesting larger versions of the captured media and beginning work on the post process. Images and video can also be manually uploaded, and all uploads are managed via an upload manager.

Image Distressing Photoshop Plug-in

Font Diner had a set of scripts for Adobe Photoshop to apply image distressing affects to an image. They wanted a faster, more powerful way to do these affects while protecting their original images and maintaining cross-platform support. Art & Logic delivered the plug-in on Windows XP, Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X (PowerPC and Intel), and updates when, new at the time, Photoshop CS3 was released. The plug-in was faster and more powerful than the original scripts, had a unique interface, and kept the client's proprietary data secure.

A Simple App Solves A Big Problem

Researchers who present posters at scientific or medical symposia often have to create hundreds of scaled-down, hard-to-read printouts of their poster for handing out at the session. Dark Scorpion's Poster Commander is a less expensive and "green" alternative to poster handouts, and allows a researcher to transmit, using the iPhone's Bluetooth capability, an electronic file (PDF) of the poster from his or her iPhone to the iPhones of attendees who also have this app. Through the "Statistics" screen, poster presenters can keep track of how many times each poster is downloaded and, if selected, the contact information of the person who downloaded the application.

Personalized Trainer Workouts for MP3 Players

iTrain is a website that sells downloadable music for workouts. Art & Logic was responsible for all aspects of the project, including user interface design, layout, and construction; administrative tools, setting up e-commerce, testing, and project management. Most of the user interface is done in Flash. The server-side code is PHP/MySQL. There are multiple servers, with load balancing. You'll need to register to get a password to log into the site. Registering is quick, simple, and free.

Music in Education™ for Yamaha

The MIE system includes 16 MIE keyboards linked with MIDI to the MIE software running on a G4 Macintosh computer. Contact Management for the BlackBerry Platform

M Financial Group hired Art & Logic to develop a native BlackBerry application to allow clients to access contact information hosted by third-party data providers. Users can log into the application, search for contacts, and view detailed information about those contacts via web services published by the data provider. Users can easily phone or email their contacts by clicking hyperlinks that invoke the corresponding BlackBerry applications. The application also utilizes BlackBerry GPS capabilities along with Google Maps to provide directions to a contact's location from the user's current location.

Neon Sign Design and Animation Control Software for Fluid Light Technologies

Art & Logic created both Windows and Mac OS versions of "NeonCAD". Users can design arbitrarily complex neon signs using the CAD tools provided, and animate those signs using the client's proprietary neon control technology that allows light to appear to move through a neon tube. The animation patterns may be previewed on the computer. The resulting sign layouts can be printed for sign fabricators, and the animation control data can be saved to the client's neon controller hardware for deployment.

For example, the device interface can show which plugin cards are in which device slots and can defer committing a large set of cached configuration changes to eliminate conflicts.

In order to maintain capatibility with the Blackberry, iPhone, and Treo, text was converted to images for the interface because it was discovered that not all devices support all font sizes. Separate versions were created iPhone, and MobilePC/Blackberry/Treo.

Pickup Lines on Your iPhone

Wingman is an iPhone app that generates pickup lines based on user input for several categories (Face/Body/Intelligence, etc). The application selects a pickup line based on the point value of each of the user selections. The Lite version randomizes the selections, not allowing user choice. In the full version, the user can take a photo or choose an image from their photo library to replace the "girl" image on the pickup line screen.

Paint Mixing Application

Project Paint Research contacted Art & Logic to create a Windows CE application to look up paint mix formulas. Users can select a make, model, year, and manufacturer's paint color or code. The CE application searches Project Paint's database for the equivalent color and provides the formula to mix the color. The application works on Windows Mobile devices.

Printers are among the many networked devices getting web-based management systems. Recognizing that their in-house web design team might not have the specialized experience for device management, a Hewlett Packard division based in Spain asked Art & Logic to create the management interface for the DesignJet 5000. The final product features dynamic ink level monitoring and print job status (using proprietary lightweight JavaScript code), printer configuration, design integration with the DesignJet support web site, and internationalization of the user interface for six languages.

Designated Driver iPhone App

NeoWave Institute hired Art & Logic to develop one of the first socially responsible iPhone apps to allow a user to reach out to family, friends or a cab to request a ride when a designated driver becomes necessary. A user can configure Designated Driver to send messages to up to 5 recipients. Each message includes a call back number and a Google Map link to the user's location. Virgin HealthMiles hired Art & Logic to port their existing Windows-based GoZone iSync software to Macintosh. Virgin's GoZone pedometers connect via USB to a user's computer. Art & Logic created a service that lets parts makers complete the complex IPX1752 reporting form, that previously required hundreds of cells to be completed individually in forms declaring all the parts and materials in all forms of electronics. For example, if you are a hard drive manufacturer (one of their customers), you have to declare thousands of parts and substances in your product. Rather than do that manually, this site helps you manage that process.

iTunes Plugin for e.Digital Corporation

Art & Logic was hired to develop an iTunes plugin to support a range of high-capacity digital audio players and portable digital jukebox devices on Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. The software manages the transfer of audio content between the iTunes application and the audio player and maintains playlists used by the device to organize tracks.

PasturePool.com enables golfers to track their golf scores, handicap, greens in regulation, putts, up/down percentage, and more. TurboGears Web application for delivering entertaining messages by phone

Art & Logic was hired to realize the client's vision of a fun web app for sending prerecorded messages by phone. SRS Labs (now part of DTS, Inc) hired us to provide a system-wide solution for their audio processing technologies on the Mac. Using the Soundflower virtual audio driver, the application captures all system audio and processes it using SRS' proprietary audio processing algorithms. We implemented a custom UI provided by the client to match their existing Windows application. With Audio Essentials on the Mac, you can now give a big boost to your music, videos or whatever audio you play on your computer.

Conference Organizer for Mobile Web

The Canadian Tax Foundation hired Art & Logic to make their conference schedules and presentations available to attendees on their mobile devices. Leveraging the principles of Responsive Design, we created a contemporary UI that met CTF's communication goals while dynamically adapting itself to the broad spectrum of device dimensions, resolutions, and usage patterns. MedExpress is a fast-growing company managing patient medical records for an increasing number of clients extending across multiple states in the US. In addition to collecting and storing patient medical records, MedExpress handles requests from patients or their representatives for copies of personal healthcare documents. Before engaging Art & Logic, they struggled with the ability to track these requests. It is particularly important for them to be able to produce reports which indicate clearly a complete audit trail of a request from start to fulfillment. This report must also indicate exactly what personal healthcare documents had been delivered to the requester. MedExpress engaged Art & Logic to develop for them a web-based application, written in PHP and leveraging the Yii framework. This application will be used by multiple groups of users within the MedExpress organization to enter and then procress a request through the required workflow. Authentication is provided through an interface to the organizations LDAP system. Email notifications, using customizable templates are used to alert employees when a request has changed status, and needs some attention. The application allows for the upload and storage of scanned medical documents as well as the initial requests and any supporting documentation. Security levels ensure that only the appropriately authorized individuals have access to sensitive medical information throughout the process. The system assists in the generation of invoices and the tracking of those invoices and payments. In addition the system provides a feature which tracks attempts by workers to contact the initial requester for additional information if required. Once the requested healthcare documents have been gathered the system tracks the delivery method and confirmation of delivery. A report can be generated which details the particulars of an individual request as well as a listing of the documents that were delivered to the requester.
